2.9.12 - Salawi

Then in al-Durrah al-Fakhirah, he says: One day I heard a voice reciting the Quran in the way he recited it. Concerning this I told him that it was one of the believing in who had asked me to let him keep company with me; he had pressed me in the matter and had bound me with an oath. I abided by it and allowed him to sit with me to study the Quran with me.

This Shaykh was like his own Shaykh, always answered when he made supplication and having the power to walk upon water. One night thieves broke into his house and took some things he had there. While all this was going on the Shaykh was on his prayer mat too absorbed in his devotions to notice their presence. When the thieves wanted to leave they could find no exit and the wall seemed to grow higher before their eyes. Then they returned the things and found the door. Then one of them stood by the door and the others went back for the things they had taken. No sooner had they done this than they could again not find a door. When they consulted their leader he assured them he had not left his place, but that he could no longer see the door. They repeated the operation several times without success. Then they finally realized what was happening, put the stolen goods back and left the house repentant. It was one of the thieves who told me this story.

I kept company with him for nearly ten years until he died.
