2.2.21.4 - Some Charismata of His Uncle Abu Muslim

Abu Muslim was close to the Caliph Muawiya Ibn Abi Sufyan, and he has many stories mentioned in the Biographies of the Famous Nobles [v. 4 pp. 7-14] and also in the History of Islam [Al-Dahabi, History of Islam: The Reign of the Rightly Guided Caliphs (pp. 539--540), Deaths 61-80 (pp. 22, pp. 292-298)] and other books. It is clear from all these stories that Abu Muslim al-Khawalani has many notable charismata. Many historians have told his story with the liar al-Aswad al-Ansiy, who claimed prophecy during the reign of Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq, may Allah be pleased with him.

When the liar al-Ansiy claimed prophecy in Yemen, he called upon Abu Muslim and he said to him: Do you testify that I am the Messenger of God? Abu Muslim said: I don’t hear. Al-Ansiy then said: Do you testify that Muhammad is the Messenger of God? He said: Yes. Then he repeated that to him several time, always getting the same answer. At that, al-Ansiy ordered to ignite a great fire and threw Abu Muslim in it, but the fire did not harm him! When this happened, al-Ansiy was advised to exile him before spoiling those who followed him, thus he ordered him to leave. Abu Muslim then came to Medina, but the Messenger of Allah peace be upon him had just passed away and Abu Bakr was his first successor.

When he entered Medina he went the mosque to pray. He then saw Omar Ibn al-Khattab, who asked him: Where you are from? He said: from the people of Yemen. He said: What happened with the man who was burned by the liar with fire? He said: That is Abdullah Ibn Thoub. Omar then exclaimed: By God is that you? He said: Oh God, yes. The Omar embraced him and wept, and then he took him the Caliph Abu Bakr, and he said: Praise be to Allah who let see meet one from the nation of Muhammad, peace be upon him, who did as the Prophet Ibrahim Khalil.
