6.2 - Settling in Damascus

Damascus is the oldest inhabited city in history, and many hadith have been narrated which show that Allah has guaranteed its security and preferred it from all other spots: the people of Sham are the whip of Allah in the Earth, and the Substitutes are located in it, and the Levant is the best of Allah’s land, to which He brings the elites of His servants, because to it the pillar of Islam has been relocated, and when treacheries prevail then safety is in the Levant [Kanz: 35007, 35008, 34594, 35039].

In Damascus, where he shall spend the last seventeen years of his life, Shaykh Muhyiddin found security, comfort and stability, especially since he has many friends, fans and devotees. In addition to the Ayyubid Kings, many of his friends in Damascus have high social standing, such as the family of Ibn al-Zakiy who took care of him and celebrated his presence. He had a house in which he used to meet with his students and seekers, lecturing them and reading his books, in addition to his unceasing devotion to writing without any break until the last breath of his blessed life.

In this busy stage of his activity, Shaykh Muhyiddin authored two of his most precious books, that are indeed among the most important books in history, and these are the “Bezels of Wisdom” and the “Meccan Revelations”, in addition to many other significant books and shorter treatises.
