[37]

This Abdullah had great spiritual power and veracity. Once, as he was setting off on a journey from Abu Madyan’s place at Bugia to Spain to see his mother, the Shaykh Abu Madyan asked him to convey his greetings to a certain Abu Abdullah, an aged Shaykh known as al-Ghazzal (the spinner) who lived in Almeria and who had been a companion of Ibn al-Arif5 and a contemporary of Abu Madyan, Abu al-Rabii al-Kafif of Egypt, Abdul-Rahim of Qana and Abu Naja of Jazirat al-Dhahab.

After this he held al-Mawruri in great respect and was so impressed that he traveled to Almeria to visit the Shaykh Abu Abdullah al-Ghazzail a companion of Ibn al-Ari£ and a contemporary of Abu al-Rabi al-Kafif, Abu al-Naja and Abdul-Rahim. He met with him there and gained much benefit from him, after which he returned to Carmona. after this time he continued to serve the brethren, provide them with hospitality and show them respect, which I liked in him.

Perhaps also on his way to Murcia he paid a visit to the celebrated Sufi school at Almeria which had been founded by Ibn al-Arif, author of the famous treatise Mahasin al-Majalis. At the time of his visit the school was being run by Ibn all Arifs disciple, Abu Abdallah al-Ghazzal. While he was there Ibn Arabi wrote his Mawaqi al-Nujum.
